Class of 2025 Top 150 prospect Kayden Mingo seeing recruitment heat up as stock continues to rise

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Kayden Mingo, a three-star junior out of Long Island Lutheran, has seen offers roll in after an impressive season and HoopHall Classic.

The 6-foot-2 guard constantly puts up high-teens or 20s in the scoring category, on a Crusaders roster that has five potential DI starters. He dropped 19 against No. 1 Colombus HS (FL.) on Saturday and followed it up with 17 against Arizona Compass (AZ.) on Monday. He averages around a team-high 18 points per game this season.

Mingo’s play has earned him offers from Penn State, Cal, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest and St. Louis.

“For a while, I hadn’t had any offers,” he told ZAGSBLOG postgame. “It kind of makes you feel a certain type of way when you’re working hard and not rewarded. It feels real good knowing programs trust me, especially when there’s multiple.”

Along with the offers, Mingo has attracted interest from Texas Tech, Notre Dame and SMU.

He plans to visit Penn State first, while also seeing Wake Forest and Cal sometime in the spring, once LuHi’s season is over.

He broke down some of his recent options:

Penn State: “I really like my relationship with them. Coach [Jimmy] Martelli and Coach [Mike] Rhoades stay in contact a lot.”

Cal: “I like California. I like the way they play. They have a pro coaching staff so it’s good to learn from people who’ve seen what it takes at the next level.”

St. Louis: “St. Louis is real good. Coach [Christian] Nunez is my guy, he’s from New York so I have a great relationship with them.”

In terms of his play style, Mingo credited his scoring but focused on his toughness and ability to win.

“I’d say a winner, really,” he said. “I’m a tough guard who can play downhill, knock down the three, play defense, and rebound as well.”
