Kirk Herbstreit Praises The ‘Best’ Student Section In College Football

October 27, 2024 by The Spun

College Football’s 10 Most Intimidating Stadiums (1:16)

With Week 9 on the horizon, we’re incredibly heading into the final month of the 2024 college football regular season.

As far as next week’s schedule goes, one game stands out above the rest: Ohio State at Penn State. The Nittany Lions and Buckeyes are ranked third and fourth respectively in the AP poll, and are battling with Oregon and Indiana for a shot at the Big Ten title. The winner of Saturday’s game in Happy Valley will have added a major data point to its College Football Playoff resume.

Not surprisingly, ESPN announced Saturday morning that it is taking College GameDay on the road to Ohio State-Penn State. Kirk Herbstreit is psyched for the matchup, which gives him the chance to see the “best student section in college football” up close.

Herbstreit has praised Penn State’s fan turnout multiple times in the past, and did the same on Sunday morning.

“Always love coming to State College-BEST student section in college football!!! And truth be known…All the signs you see at CGD today…started years ago when we came for a WHITE OUT,” Herbstreit tweeted. “Students brought 1000’s of signs one year behind us and it’s become a weekly staple ever since. But it started at Penn State! And when Ohio State comes to town it goes to another level! Gonna be ELECTRIC!!”

Ohio State comes into the game at 6-1 following a 21-17 win over Nebraska on Saturday. The Buckeyes’ only blemish is a 32-31 road loss to No. 1 Oregon.

Penn State, meanwhile, is 7-0 after taking down Wisconsin on the road by two touchdowns Saturday night. The Nittany Lions have lost to Ohio State seven straight times, with their most recent win in the series coming in 2016.

Kickoff for this Big Ten tussle is set for noon ET Saturday on FOX.
