Report: Several Penn State Players Transferring After Spring Football

This week has been a busy one across the college football landscape, as players hustled to enter the transfer portal before the spring window closed.

Penn State has had multiple players hop into the portal, with three more names emerging Thursday.

The latest defections are offensive lineman Golden Israel-Achumba, running back London Montgomery and wide receiver Malik McClain.

Montgomery, a four-star prospect out of Scranton (Pa.) Prep in the 2023 class, did not see game action in his lone season with the Nittany Lions.

Israel-Achumba spent four years with the program. After redshirting in 2020, he played in one game in 2021 and three in 2022 before carving out a role on special teams last fall, when he appeared in 12 contests.

McClain, meanwhile, transferred to Penn State from Florida State last offseason. He played in 13 games with one start for the Nittany Lions, racking up six receptions for 71 yards and one touchdown, a 25-yard grab in the season opener against West Virginia.

In total, Penn State has had six players state their intent to transfer since the end of spring football on April 13.

The Nittany Lions are coming off a 10-3 season, their fifth double-digit win campaign in 10 years under James Franklin. Since 2022, Franklin has gone 14-4 in ACC play, but all four of those losses have come against Michigan and Ohio State.
