ACC shuffles Pitt basketball schedule amid COVID issues

The Pitt-Florida State game has been postponed, and the Pitt-Georgia Tech game has been rescheduled

The Pitt men’s basketball schedule has once again been shuffled by the ACC. This time, the team’s matchup with Florida State scheduled for Saturday has been postponed due to “testing issues” in the Florida State program.

The same Seminoles team prompted the postponement of the Florida State-Syracuse matchup originally scheduled for Wednesday night with positive COVID-19 tests within the program. And as a result, Pitt’s trip to Syracuse scheduled for Feb. 13 was moved up to fill the open slot on both teams’ schedules.

In addition, Pitt’s away game at Georgia Tech scheduled for Jan. 12 at 5 p.m. ET has been rescheduled. The game will now be played on Jan. 13 at 8:30 p.m. ET at McCamish Pavilion. However, unlike the Georgia Tech game, the Florida State game has not been rescheduled.

The Florida State game is the third on Pitt’s schedule to be postponed over COVID-19 issues with no new date set. Previously, Pitt’s Dec. 29 matchup with Duke was postponed due to positive tests within the Pitt basketball program, and so was the matchup with Notre Dame on Jan. 2. The fate of all three games is currently in question, as it is unclear if they will be played and, if so, when that might occur.

If there is a silver lining to be found in the postponements, it is that Pitt has only had to play three games without injured star Justin Champagnie so far and may have been shorthanded again if the Florida State game had been played as scheduled. But the downside is that the team has won six of its last seven games, and its hot streak has now been disrupted multiple times.

Pitt’s matchup with Georgia Tech will air on the ACC Network, and as things currently stand, the team will then face Syracuse at the Petersen Events Center three days later.
