Pitt is set to face the No. 16 Florida State Seminoles at the Petersen Events Center on Saturday, but the team will be missing one of its top contributors, as Au’Diese Toney will sit out as a result of an undisclosed injury.
This season, the 6’6”, 210-pound guard-forward is averaging 14.4 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game, ranking second on the team in all three statistical categories. Toney has also been a significant contributor on defense, as he ranks second on the team in steals, with 20 to Xavier Johnson’s 22 this season.
With that said, Toney has also struggled at the free-throw line this season, making just 66.7 percent of his 87 attempts. But his aggressive play has seen him get to the charity stripe more than any other Pitt player. In fact, Xavier Johnson and Justin Champagnie are the only other players with more than 50 foul shots this season, with 86 and 72, respectively.
At this point, the severity of Toney’s injury is unclear and a timeline for his return has not been provided. This is the second time Toney has missed a game this season, as he suffered an ankle injury in practice that sidelined him for Pitt’s 64-54 loss to Louisville on Dec. 22.
Pitt and Florida State will tip off from the Petersen Events Center at 4 p.m. ET. The game will air on AT&T Sportsnet.

The injury that sidelined Au’Diese Toney for Saturday’s game is a concussion that he suffered as a result of a car accident on Thursday, according to Craig Meyer of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. It is still unclear when he will return from the injury.
