Successful season leads to several postseason accolades for the Panthers

They announced the winners of the postseason awards on the ACC Network this evening. Jeff Capel won coach of the year. Nike Sibande won 6th Man of the Year. Jamarius Burton made First Team All-ACC and Blake Hinson made the Second Team. It has been a remarkable season for the Panthers and it’s refreshing to see the voting reflect that.

Coach of the Year – Sure, it stinks that the last two games did not end the way we wanted, but there was no way anybody but Jeff Capel was going to win this award. From being picked 14th out of 15 to being one missed shot away from the regular season title, it’s been a massively successful regular season for the Panthers. Capel received 57 out of the 75 votes.

6th Man of the Year – Sibande received 47 votes to win this one in a landslide as well. Sibande scored in double figures in 15 games this season, easily the most out of any player who received votes for this award.

1st Team All-ACC – Jamarius Burton earned his selection with 262 points, just edging out ACC Rookie of the Year Kyle Filipowski (258 points) for the last spot. Burton does not blow you away with any particular part of his game, but he is good to very good in almost everything.

2nd Team All-ACC – Blake Hinson was named to the 2nd team, just edging out Norchad Omier of Miami for the final spot. Hinson led the Panthers in scoring (10th in ACC) and finished second in the conference in three pointers per game, connecting on 2.8 triples per contest.
