Los Angeles Kings Captain Anze Kopitar Out With Foot Injury

Kopitar missed Thursday’s 4-2 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins, and it looks like he’ll be out for a bit. The injury likely happened after a deflected puck hit the Kings captain in the foot. This happened during Monday’s shootout defeat to the Minnesota Wild.

His availability was uncertain before the game against the Penguins. However, he was ruled out before the matchup. The Kings indicated that Kopitar would be out for a decent amount of time.

Kopitar has only played for the Kings during his 20-year NHL career. The Slovenian legend has four assists in the game four games that he’s appeared in. This season is the final one in Kopitar’s storied career.

He has 440 goals and 842 assists for 1,282 points in 1,458 career games. Kopitar was drafted in the first round, 11th overall of the 2005 NHL Draft. The veteran forward is a two-time Stanley Cup winner, but has several individual honours. He’s won the Lady Byng Trophy three times and is a two-time Selke Trophy winner.

What It Means

Los Angeles is off to a tough start with a 1-3-1 mark. This includes three consecutive defeats. The first season of general manager Ken Holland‘s debut season in the post has been a rough one.

The Kings had only a few changes from a roster that matched franchise records in wins and points. However, Los Angeles was eliminated once again by the Edmonton Oilers.

Kopitar is one of the better defensive players in the league. Los Angeles will miss him at both ends of the ice and hope to get his farewell season back on track.
