The Penguins are waiting on the New York Rangers to find out if they hold an 11th pick.
The NHL announced the full order of the 2025 draft on Monday ahead of this weekend’s event.
The draft is set to begin with Round 1 Friday at 7 p.m. ET, followed by Round 2 through Round 7 on Saturday starting at noon ET.
The Penguins are heading into the weekend with 10 picks. Here’s a look at what Kyle Dubas is working with now that the official order has been set.
Penguins 2025 NHL draft picks
- Round 1, Pick 11
- Round 2, Pick 59 (from Washington Capitals)
- Round 3, Pick 73
- Round 3, Pick 84 (from Minnesota Wild via Philadelphia Flyers and Nashville Predators)
- Round 3, Pick 85 (from Ottawa Senators via St. Louis Blues)
- Round 4, Pick 105
- Round 5, Pick 130 (from Chicago Blackhawks via Toronto Maple Leafs and Washington Capitals)
- Round 5, Pick 148 (from Minnesota Wild via Toronto Maple Leafs)
- Round 6, Pick 169
- Round 7, Pick 201
The Penguins could get another pick if the New York Rangers decide to hand over the No. 12 pick. If the Rangers keep the selection, the Pens are set to automatically get the Rangers’ 2026 first-rounder.
The Athletic’s Josh Yohe reported on Monday that “most people in the Penguins organization” expect the Rangers to keep the No. 12 selection and send next year’s pick to Pittsburgh. Either way, general manager Chris Drury will have to decide which path to take by Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET.
NHL insider Jeff Marek also said earlier this month that Dubas is looking to move up from the No. 11 pick. Regardless of the Rangers’ decision, it’s safe to assume this list could look significantly different by the time the Pens get on the board for the first time this weekend.
The draft is a “decentralized” event, so Dubas could be working the phones from Pittsburgh on Friday. The top 50 prospects have been invited to attend in person in Los Angeles, according to the NHL.
