Pens Points has all the latest as the Penguins are in Buffalo to conclude a three game road trip.

It’s not often these days the Pittsburgh Penguins play a team below them in the standings, but they will tonight when they take on the Buffalo Sabres. It’s yet another lost season for the Sabres who sit in the basement of the Eastern Conference and are in line for another high draft selection. The last time these two teams met, Alex Nedeljkovic made headlines with a goalie goal.

Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 PM and will be broadcast on Sportsnet Pittsburgh.

Pens Points…

Playoffs may not be in the cards for the Penguins this season, but the future stars of the big club will be playing for a shot at the Calder Cup with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on the verge of locking down a playoff spot. [Pensburgh]

Cut resistant clothing has been a hot topic of discussion since the tragic death of Adam Johnson, but neck guards have still not caught on at the NHL-level where only a minority of players choose to wear the protective garment. [Trib Live]

NHL News and Notes…

No goalie has allowed more goals to Alex Ovechkin than Marc-Andre Fleury, surrendering 28 tallies to the soon to be NHL all-time goal scorer. Reflecting back on his time playing against Ovechkin, Fleury believes he deserves some credit for Ovi’s success. [NHL]

Once again, the question of what constitutes goaltender interference is back in the spotlight after a slew of controversial calls in recent weeks. Neither goalies or skaters can seem to figure out where the line is being drawn, leaving everyone frustrated. [AP]

Although the NHL had not yet adopted the shootout when the 21st century began, we are now in season 20 of the de facto skills competition being how the league decided regular season games and it has given fans some great highlights. [NHL]
