Pens Points: Big Apple Beatdown

Another midweek edition of Pens Points is here, this time coming off the heels of one ugly loss.

The Pittsburgh Penguins and New York Rangers met in Madison Square Garden last night to begin another two-game series. This game had a little bit of everything. 12 combined goals, a goalie switch after an early deficit, and it all turned into a big, one-sided loss for the team in black and gold. [Game Recap]

Hump Day arrives with a new Pens Points in tow…

After a flurry of roster moves on Sunday sent players down to the taxi squad, another flurry on Tuesday saw those players returned to the active roster. The players called up were Frederick Gaudreau, Radim Zohorna, and Drew O’Connor. [Penguins]

It’s now just five days until the NHL trade deadline, meaning the Penguins are running low on time if they hope to make any moves. While there is much uncertainty as to whether the Penguins will do anything, there are some options on the market they could explore. [Trib Live]

For once, the Penguins had an injury scare that didn’t turn out to be a long term issue. Goaltender Tristan Jarry left a game last week against the New York Islanders with an upper-body injury but was back in net against the Rangers after a two game absence. [Trib Live]

In what could mark an important step in his recovery process, Evgeni Malkin is set to partake in some individual skating drills later today. [Pittsburgh Post-Gazette]

It has been a less-than-stellar debut season in Ottawa for former Penguins goaltender Matt Murray. Murray, who currently carries a 7-12-1 record with a 3.84 goals-against average and a .880 save percentage, has had an obvious rough go of things playing behind an unimpressive Senators squad. With the 26-year-old struggling the Sens decided it was time for a coaching staff change, relieving Pierre Groulx of his duties as goaltending coach. [Trib Live]

News and notes from around the NHL…

As COVID-19 currently runs rampant throughout the Vancouver Canucks organization, NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly believes the team can still finish its 56-game schedule. [ESPN]

Plans for a Humboldt Broncos tribute center and roadside memorial have been unveiled to honor the Canadian junior team that gained international recognition following the tragic 2018 bus crash. [NHL]
