It’s another week and here’s what we can scrape up for what is going on around the Penguins and some other items in the hockey world lately.
Former Penguin Conor Timmins has agreed to a new contract prior to his arbitration hearing. The Sabres will get Timmins’ services for the next two seasons on a deal worth $2.2 million. [Sabres – NHL]
Former Penguin and fellow Conor, Conor Sheary will be looking to reverse his several year career slide with a PTO in New York with uncle-in-law Mike Sullivan. [NY Post]
The Pens check in with Kris Letang, who has been out in California this summer and up to his usual heavy training routine. At this point his heart surgery from only three months ago feels a lot further in the rear view. [Penguins.com]
Pens’ prospects Ben Kindel and Harrison Brunicke have been invited to the Team Canada camp at the World Junior Summer Showcase. Will Horcoff and Mac Swanson were named to the Team USA camp, and Melvin Fernstrom will be there for Sweden. (For the uninitiated: the World Junior Summer Showcase is “practices and games [that started yesterday and go until] Aug. 2 in the first step toward selecting their teams for the 2026 WJC”). Fernstrom’s shot is making him a player to watch for the people who track these sorts of things. Based off what we saw in Pittsburgh’s development camp earlier this month, they’ll be impressed. [Daily Faceoff]

It looks like 37-year old Nicklas Backstrom is signing in Sweden with Brynas, the team he played for before going to the NHL. [The Hockey News]
