Phillip Tomasino spent much of his OHL playing for the Niagara IceDogs. Across 164 games with the team, he scored 61 goals and 153 points before being moved to the Oshawa Generals in the 2019-20 season. He would score another 18 goals and 43 points in just 26 games with the organization.
Tomasino has also spent time in the American Hockey League. Across 2021-2024, Tomasino split 89 games between the Chicago Wolves and Milwaukee Admirals. He showed his goal-scoring prowess during this time, scoring 36 goals and 82 points.
NHL Playing Career
Phillip Tomasino had a promising debut season with the Nashville Predators in 2021-22. As a rookie, he scored 11 goals and 32 points in 76 games. Unfortunately for Tomasino, he wasn’t able to replicate this performance again over his next couple of seasons. He would bounce up and down the Predators and Admirals rosters. Across 2022-2025, Tomasino would only suit up in 83 NHL games for the Predators, where he scored 12 goals and 27 points.
Led by new general manager Barry Trotz, the Predators sought a more competitive roster, deciding to deal Tomasino to the Pittsburgh Penguins for a fourth-round pick in 2027. As part of a youth movement for the Penguins, Tomasino received an extended look at the NHL level. He scored 11 goals and 23 points in 50 games with Pittsburgh, setting himself up to continue his development into a middle-six scoring winger. As Tomasino signs a one year deal with the Penguins, he looks to figure into a middle-six role, hoping to improve on his first-round pick pedigree going forward.
