Robbie and Snail are back to discuss the Penguins hiring Dan Muse as the team’s new head coach.
You may have heard, but the Pittsburgh Penguins have found a new head coach. On Wednesday, the team announced the hiring of Dan Muse to be the 23rd head coach in franchise history, replacing Mike Sullivan following a weeks long search by Kyle Dubas.
The hiring of Muse did come as a bit of a shock after most speculation had Mitch Love and DJ Smith as the leading candidates for the job. In the end though, it was Muse getting the nod over Love and Smith to take over as bench boss for a Penguins team preparing to enter a new era with youth likely to take center stage.
With the hiring official, Robbie and Snail were back behind the mics for a new episode of The Skating Penguin Network, discussing the hiring of Muse and looking at what he brings to the Penguins.
The guys go over Muse’s coaching history with a heavy focus on his development work with younger players when he was at the helm of the USA Hockey National Team Development Program where he coached Rutger McGroarty. They also touch on his other coaching stops that include Yale, the Chicago Steel of the USHL, along with NHL stints in Nashville and most recently New York.
Robbie and Snail also touch on an exhilarating Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final that saw the Edmonton Oilers come from behind and defeat the Florida Panthers in overtime to get an early leg up in the series.
With the new coach hiring now checked off the list and the NHL season in its last stages, the offseason is about to heat up with the draft and free agency looming in the coming weeks. As always, Robbie and Snail will be ready and waiting to break it all down so make sure you subscribe to the show as to not miss anything new.
