Swedish Sniper Signs with Colorado Avalanche

August 20, 2025 by Last Word On Hockey

Making news today is someone with a strong wrist-shot. Victor Olofsson has signed a new deal today with the Colorado Avalanche. He’s a great add to many teams, and this is no exception. According to PuckPedia, it’s a one-year deal for $1.575 million.

Victor Olofsson, signed with COL, is a veteran scoring winger. Spent literally his entire career as a perimeter one-timer merchant and then suddenly puts up unreal defensive numbers? Not sure I buy it but it’d be cool if that sticks around. pic.twitter.com/GYbdUylHkL

Victor Olofsson Signs New Deal with Colorado Avalanche

Olofsson comes from the home of the famous Modo Hockey club in Ornskoldsvik, Sweden. The town of just under 33,000 people, has gave us the likes of Markus Naslund, Peter Forsberg, and the Sedin brothers (Henrik and Daniel). Moreover, for Olofsson, he could be seen as a bit of a late-bloomer. Drafted in the seventh round of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft to the Buffalo Sabres, he didn’t play his first full NHL season until 2019-20 as a 24-year-old.

However, when he made it, he did make an impact. That first campaign saw him make the all-rookie team. It was the first of three seasons now that he has recorded 20 goals. Furthermore, he is a career plus-15 minute a night player, carrying a shooting percentage of 13.5%. He’s a strong skater, who can unleash an excellent wrister from anywhere in the zone really. He’s definitely a great depth piece to have on your roster. That’s why the Vegas Golden Knights had taken a flyer on him for the 2024-25 season.

What He Brings Based on What He’s Been Doing

As Victor Olofsson signs, looking back in 2024-25, he had 15 goals and 14 assists for 29 points in 56 games. He received some power play time, but not enough to really boost his offence. That’s saying something for how productive he was, given the opportunity, or lack thereof. Look for that to change in 2025-26. He’s a great pickup, who brings skill and offensive upside in a depth role. Never have too many of those guys around.

That’s what his new general manager was thinking, too. Colorado has a reputation of constantly tinkering, and Olofsson’s skillset and potential seems to fit that bill. Let’s see how it works out.
