October 9, 2025 by Last Word On Hockey

The Vegas Golden Knights have opened up their wallets to keep one of their own. News emerged that the Golden Knights have signed star forward Jack Eichel to an extension. This deal is for eight years and $108 million. The average salary cap hit is $13.5 million per season and the contract runs through the end of the 2033-34 season.

Vegas Golden Knights Give Jack Eichel a Massive Contract Extension

Eichel has played for the Buffalo Sabres and the Golden Knights across his ten-year NHL career. Last season, he registered a career high in points with 94 after netting 28 goals and 66 assists. The North Chelmsford, Massachusetts native had an average ice time of 20 minutes and 32 seconds. He had a Corsi for of 53.0 and a relative Corsi of 3.6.

The 28-year-old has 239 goals and 369 assists for 608 points in 616 career games. Buffalo originally drafted him second overall in the 2015 NHL Draft behind Connor McDavid of the Edmonton Oilers.

Eichel was a standout at the NCAA level in his one season at Boston University. He helped the Terriers to runner-up at the 2015 NCAA Division I tournament and won the Hobey Baker Award.

He’s also represented the United States at the junior and senior levels. Eichel was on the American squad that was second at the 2025 Four Nations Face-Off.

What It Means

Vegas continues to keep their star players in the fold for the long term. The Knights have given out massive extensions to Shea Theodore and Noah Hanifin in recent offseason. They also landed Mitch Marner from the Toronto Maple Leafs. A move like this helps soften the blow of just recently learning they are losing Alex Pietrangelo for the season.

Eichel had his best season on the NHL level, but Vegas fell short of getting its second Stanley Cup. Golden Knights general manager Kelly McCrimmon knows that it’s going to take star players to bring the Cup back.

Keeping Eichel on the roster will help accomplish that goal in Vegas. This takes yet another potential big-name free agent off the board, with names like Kyle Connor, Connor McDavid, and Kirill Kaprizov all recently signing.
