The Pirates star is climbing up the MLB hists list at 38.
Andrew McCutchen continues to make history in the star’s second stint with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
McCutchen passed Roberto Clemente for the third-most home runs all-time in franchise history earlier this season. The leader? Hall of Fame outfielder/first baseman Willie Stargell.
While McCutchen (327 home runs) will never catch Stargell in home runs (475), he’s passed “Pops” in another significant statistical category.
On Monday against the Detroit Tigers, McCutchen earned his 2,233rd hit to surpass Stargell for 180th all-time in MLB history.

McCutchen tied Stargell with a double on Sunday facing the Chicago White Sox. Stargell played his entire 21-year career in the black and gold from 1962-1982.
1,748 of McCutchen’s hits have come in a Pirates uniform.
He finished 1-3 with a walk and single to left center to break the tie. Pittsburgh defeated the best team in baseball, 3-0 and earned Paul Skenes his fifth win.
McCutchen did not play on Tuesday. He has a great chance to move into the top 175 all-time hits list by the end of the season.
McCutchen needs one hit to tie Hall of Fame third baseman Mike Schmidt (2.234) for 179th. He must accumulate 14 hits to tie Hall of Famer Edgar Martinez for 175th.
In 89 games, McCutchen has registered 81 hits, including 23 extra-base hits. If McCutchen remains productive in the final two-month stretch and adds 37 hits, he’ll move into 166th place, jump Hall of Famers Bid McPhee (2,258) and Ron Santo (2.254).
