Last year’s No. 1 overall pick totaled a 0.99 ERA and 0.91 WHIP in 27.1 innings and struck out 45 hitters. Skenes allowed two runs in 4.1 innings on Sunday, the most of any start this season, and delivered 67 pitches.
A 2023 National Champion at LSU who consistently throws 100 mph with his fastball, Skenes is one of the most dominant pitchers in baseball and drew comparisons to Stephen Strasburg during the draft process.
In 12 minor league starts spanning 34 innings, Skenes struck out 55, walked 10, and totaled a 1.85 ERA, 0.94 WHIP, and .179 opponent batting average. He delivered only 6.2 innings in 2023 after being drafted and allowed four runs on five hits and a .192 opponent average.
Skenes will make his debut at PNC Park against the Chicago Cubs at 4:05 p.m.
