Pittsburgh’s short stop of the future is crushing it with his new squad!
Konnor Griffin has been making waves all season long in the minors, showing off his incredible bat skills and athleticism on the base pads and in the field on defense. His latest wave came this week when he made his High-A debut with the Greensboro Grasshoppers.
Griffin would debut for the Grasshoppers on Tuesday as Greensboro started their six-game series against the Rome Emperors. The 19-year-old prospect was thrust into the lineup as the team’s shortstop, and he quickly put to rest anyone’s doubts about how he’d perform at the next level.
In his first game at High-A, Griffin would tally two doubles, an RBI, and a run scored as the Grasshoppers took game one 8-2. The next night, Griffin would again have two doubles, scored twice, plus another RBI and added a stolen base to his stat sheet helping to lift the Hoppers to another victory. In his most recent game Thursday, Griffin would gather another two hits, another run scored, another RBI, and another stolen base. Oh, and Greensboro shut out Rome 4-0.
Konnor Griffin now has recorded an RBI & a multi-hit game in his first 3 games in High-A!

At just 19-years of age, it’s clear to see why Griffin was the first high schooler drafted last year when Pittsburgh took him ninth overall. So far through rookie ball and Low-A, he has excelled and has been one of the most productive hitters in the lower Minor Leagues. Not to mention his athleticism also makes him an asset defensively, seeing most of his time at short stop with some appearances in centerfield as well.
If his first three games are an indication of things to come, fans should be very excited for the Pirates to have a potential future All-Star in Pittsburgh very soon.
