The Pittsburgh Pirates might trade one of their best players at the deadline to a team eyeing the playoffs.
The Pittsburgh Pirates are a team to watch with the trade deadline coming up in a matter of weeks.
As one of the worst teams in the league, the Pirates should be gauging the value of their best players with others around the league.
Bleacher Report writer Zachary D. Rymer listed the Kansas City Royals as a potential destination for Pirates outfielder Bryan Reynolds.
“With an output of -1.7 rWAR, their right field production has been the worst of any offensive position in the league,” Rymer wrote of the Royals. “It is part of the reason their offense lags behind their pitching, and certainly an ideal spot to equip Bobby Witt Jr. with a partner in crime.
“The Royals are already operating with an escalated payroll, but they could shed Salvador Perez and his $22 million salary this winter. They could otherwise be confident that would be buying low on Reynolds, who still has a bunch of red on his Statcast profile.”
Reynolds, 30, is batting .222 so far this season, which isn’t on the All-Star level he once was, but he can still add some offense to a team that’s in need of a jolt, like the Royals.
He still has five years of team control on his contract beyond this season, so the Pirates should ask for a massive haul for him.
BD community, what do you think of the idea of trading Reynolds to the Royals? Feel free to chime off in the comments section below.
