SB Nation Reacts: MLB season kick-off

MLB: Baltimore Orioles at Pittsburgh Pirates
Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Plenty of results to go over.

It’s the first week of this year’s SB Nation Reacts: MLB Edition, and there’s a lot to go over, so let’s get right into it.

Our first question asked our league-wide voters to describe MLB in one word. He’s a compilation of the most popular answers.

Next, we asked our league-wide voters what they felt was the best thing about MLB and the worst thing about MLB. There were plenty of good answers on both, and I have cards for a few of them, but I think these were my favorite response from each.

We also asked about the awards for both the National League and American League and we asked who would win each division. I’ll focus strictly on the NL and the Pirates division for our purposes here.

That’s it for our league-wide questions this week, but we also asked some of the other fanbases in the NL Central how they felt about the Buccos this year, and those results were not very surprising.

And finally, we got our first fan confidence rating for the Pittsburgh Pirates on the season. And while I don’t have a card sent to me yet from graphics until we have a few weeks worth of data, I do have the percentage of Bucs fans confident in the direction of the team, and it’s a little surprising.

A full 74% of Bucs fans who took part in polling feel confident in the team’s direction. That’s really high for a team expected to lose and lose in bunches this year. An important fact to remember is that being “confident in the direction of the team” doesn’t necessarily include raw wins and losses, but can factor in the farm system and longer term prospects as well. Still 74% is higher than what I (and probably many of you) expected.

That’s it for this week. If you want to join in on the voting fun of SB Nation Reacts, go to this link to sign up!
