What does the future hold?
Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across MLB. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Pittsburgh Pirates fans and fans across the country. Sign up here to participate in the weekly emailed surveys.
Paul Skenes was roughed up a little the other night, giving up three runs in five innings and dealing out four walks, tying his mark for the rest of the season combined in bases on balls in Pittsburgh’s 8-3 loss to the Cubs.
That doesn’t change the fact that he’s the best Pirate by far and one of the best pitchers in baseball. He’ll bounce back in short term, there’s no doubt about that.
But what about his future with the Pirates? With Skenes under team control until 2030 and currently only making $875,000 in salary at the moment, we wanted to know if you felt the Bucs would re-sign him, not re-sign him, or trade him before we even get to that point.

A whopping 96 percent of voters feel that Skenes’ days in Pittsburgh are numbered, with 53 percent feeling he gets dealt, and another 43 percent thinking the Pirates are unable to re-sign him. Only 4 percent of voters believe that Skenes will still be here after his rookie deal.
