5 Teams That Could Sign Keenan Allen

July 21, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

Training camp is either underway or just about to begin for all 32 organizations, which means veterans like free agent Keenan Allen should start finding homes in the coming days. A former third-round pick, Allen spent the entirety of his career with the Los Angeles Chargers before joining the Chicago Bears in 2024. While he didn’t put up his usual dominant number, he still recorded a solid 70 receptions for 744 yards and seven touchdowns on 121 targets.

He’s not the player he once was, but Keenan Allen is still a starting-caliber wide receiver in a league that doesn’t have enough reliable playmakers to go around. Chances are, the veteran didn’t want to participate in minicamps and will find a home in the coming days. In no particular order, the following five teams make the most sense for the free agent.

Top 5 Team Fits For Free Agent Keenan Allen

Los Angeles Chargers

Far and away, the most likely outcome is a reunion with his old team. While Keenan Allen never played a game under current head coach Jim Harbaugh, he has an established rapport with quarterback Justin Herbert and should hit the ground running if he returns. Second-year pro Ladd McConkey is the present and future of this passing attack, but Allen could be a much-needed second fiddle. With Mike Williams retiring, someone must step up and give Herbert the weapons needed to go blow for blow with the elite offenses of the AFC.

Pittsburgh Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers made flashier moves than arguably any other team, acquiring Aaron Rodgers, D.K. Metcalf, and Jalen Ramsey over the past few months. While they are a better team than they were in January, they still need another receiver. Metcalf and Keenan Allen won’t be the league’s youngest starting receivers, but they’re great short-term options for a team desperate to win their first playoff game in almost a decade.

Kansas City Chiefs

Rashee Rice received a 30-day jail sentence for his actions in a 2024 car crash, which means he should face a suspension in the coming weeks. While he probably won’t miss too much time, the Chiefs must find someone to be Patrick Mahomes’s go-to option. Keenan Allen and Rice have similar skillsets, and the veteran could be a natural fit for this passing attack.

Las Vegas Raiders

The Las Vegas Raiders need another weapon to compete in a loaded AFC West. Geno Smith is a solid quarterback, Brock Bowers looks like the NFL’s next great tight end, and Jakobi Meyers is a solid second option. This trio can make the Raiders competitive, but it won’t be enough to compete in this division. Keenan Allen can’t carry this passing attack at his current age, but he’ll give this team a much-needed veteran presence.

Cleveland Browns

The Cleveland Browns aren’t contenders, but they should still consider pursuing Keenan Allen. Third-round pick Dillon Gabriel and fifth-round pick Shedeur Sanders will probably start at some point in the season, and the Browns must hope one of them can turn into a franchise quarterback. Adding a veteran receiver like Allen to the mix will make life easier for the young passers, and he and Jerry Jeudy can form an adequate starting duo.
