The Pittsburgh Steelers may be on the verge of making another move. According to NFL Rumors on X, the Steelers have reportedly “checked in on New York Jets wide receiver Allen Lazard,” sparking real speculation surrounding Allen Lazard trade rumors. Since the George Pickens trade, the Steelers have searched to upgrade their wide receiver depth behind DK Metcalf.
Aaron Rodgers Making Allen Lazard Trade Rumors Seem Very Realistic
Lazard and Aaron Rodgers have long-established chemistry on and off the field from their years in Green Bay and their time together with the Jets. Lazard has been with Rodgers his entire career, except for 2023 when Rodgers went down with an Achilles injury in his first game with the Jets. Now that Rodgers has officially signed with the Steelers, the idea of bringing in Lazard makes even more sense. Rodgers has always favored receivers he’s familiar with, and Lazard fits that mold. The Steelers are still searching for more stability and experience at wide receiver. Whether they see Lazard as added depth or someone who could push for a WR2 or WR3 role, he’s a logical target, he is affordable, and already on the same page with their new quarterback.
Stat Pack
In 2024, Lazard recorded 37 receptions for 530 yards and six touchdowns with Rodgers at quarterback, his second-best season in terms of yardage. His numbers dipped significantly in 2023 when Rodgers missed the entire year with a torn Achilles, managing just 23 catches for 311 yards and one touchdown. Lazard’s best campaign came in 2022 in Green Bay with Rodgers, when he finished with 60 receptions for 788 yards and six touchdowns. Lazard is clearly at his best when Rodgers is throwing him the ball.
Sensible Steelers
Lazard was originally set to make an $11 million non-guaranteed base salary with the Jets in 2025 but took an $8.5 million pay cut to remain with the team. Under the restructured deal, he’ll earn a fully guaranteed $1.75 million this season and will become a free agent in 2026. His cap hit drops from $13.2 million to $4.6 million, with a $4.4 million dead money charge in 2026. Given his size, experience, and timing-based connection with Rodgers, Lazard makes a lot of sense for Pittsburgh. With plenty of draft capital and a clear need at wide receiver, this could be a smart, low-cost move, whether it ends up being their last of the offseason or just another piece to the puzzle.
