Ben Roethlisberger says he would take Aaron Rodgers in his prime over Patrick Mahomes

I’d assume he’s in the minority, but it’s a valid debate

Future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers announced this week that he will finish his career with the Steelers. He looks to follow in the footsteps of legendary signal-callers who have suited up in the black and gold, including Terry Bradshaw and, of course, Ben Roethlisberger.

If he stays healthy, Rodgers will likely break one of Big Ben’s NFL records this season.

Roethlisberger currently sits at fifth career passing yards with 64,088 – leaving Rodgers just 1,136 yards short of knocking him out of the top five. On his Footbahlin podcast this week, Roethlisberger stated that “Aaron is gonna pass my all-time passing record this. Good, records are meant to be broken.

He also made headlines with a bold take.

The 41-year-old Rodgers will likely eventually pass by Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes, but Ben is fully on board with Rodgers this season and had some high praise for the former New York Jets and Green Bay Packers orchestrator. Ben said that he would take Rodgers in his prime, over Mahomes in his.

“Well, I would take Aaron in his prime over Patrick now,” Roethlisberger said. “I think Aaron Rodgers in his prime was one of the top few to ever do it – and so is Patrick Mahomes at his prime. Patrick Mahomes is just entering out of his prime, I think.”

Roethlisberger said this was no slight at Mahomes, but obviously his respect for Rodgers is profound.

Big Ben spent his entire 18-year career with the Steelers, and certainly in his prime, he was also one of the best to ever do it.

“I think you will get a better Aaron this year than you did last year,” Ben exclaimed.

If that’s the case, the Steelers could make a bit of noise in a loaded AFC.
