Breaking: Top NFL Weapon Makes Trade Request; 5 Potential Fits

August 1, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

After spending his entire career with the Washington Commanders, wide receiver Terry McLaurin officially made his trade request right before the preseason got underway. According to breaking news, the star is looking to move on, as he has been seeking a new contract since the start of the offseason. Originally selected in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft, the former Ohio State product is a two-time Pro Bowler and has been the staple of this pass offense, helping quarterback Jayden Daniels have one of the best rookie seasons since Robert Griffin III. However, it doesn’t look good for the Commanders this upcoming campaign, even though reports said earlier that the team is looking to pay McLaurin, but there hasn’t been any progress to make that happen.

The wide receiver hasn’t been clear on what type of contract he wants, but assuming how other deals went with other pass-catchers, he might be looking around in the market for what Justin Jefferson and Amon-Ra St. Brown got. It doesn’t help Washington that notable receivers like Tee Higgins, DK Metcalf and Garrett Wilson all got long-term and cashed out deals, so they might have to meet those standards if they want McLaurin back. It’ll be interesting to see how everything unfolds in the next few days, so here are five teams that might make sense if the Commanders move on.

Breaking: Top NFL Weapon Terry McLaurin Makes Trade Request; 5 Potential Fits

Best Fits

Los Angeles Chargers

After losing Mike Williams to retirement, the Los Angeles Chargers are still searching for a consistent wide receiver to help Ladd McConkey and Quentin Johnson. While they’re developing KeAndre Lambert-Smith and Tre Harris, if the Chargers want to go deeper in the playoffs, they should capitalize on this moment and get McLaurin since they have the cap space. He should get all of the attention in Los Angeles as the main contributor to Justin Herbert’s aerial attack.

New England Patriots

Meanwhile, head coach Mike Vrabel has been installing his philosophy in New England after signing Stefon Diggs and Mack Hollins. The Patriots have too many receivers to work with, but none have been consistent. A trade for McLaurin only means that the pass-catching room could be solidified.

Baltimore Ravens

No one should count out the Baltimore Ravens from making a splash trade despite the team not having the financial means for it. Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman are still currently the only consistent weapons in Lamar Jackson’s offense, while DeAndre Hopkins is coming in as veteran help on a one-year contract. McLaurin joining the Ravens means Jackson should get in the Super Bowl alongside Bateman and Flowers.

Kansas City Chiefs

Just like the Ravens, this would spell good news for Patrick Mahomes. Being that Rashee Rice will miss a few games due to an impending suspension, leaving Xavier Worthy and Marquise Brown as the only reliable offensive weapons. McLaurin should give Mahomes more freedom and a chance to chase to win a ring.

Pittsburgh Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers are building an old roster behind quarterback Aaron Rodgers and wide receiver DK Metcalf. This means they’re chasing a Super Bowl in Rodgers’s last year in the league. He won’t do that with Metcalf, so McLaurin joining Pittsburgh to form a possible ferocious duo could light up the field.
