The former first-round pick is struggling

The Pittsburgh Steelers continued training camp on Friday with their annual Friday Night Lights practice in front of over 10,000 fans at Latrobe Memorial Stadium.

With the pads on for the second time this summer, the Steelers were able to do more in terms of drills that feature more contact. The Steelers did one-on-ones between the offensive and defensive line, and one player who struggled tremendously was left tackle Broderick Jones.

Per Nick Farabaugh of PennLive and Zach Smith of Steelers Now, the Steelers’ former first-round pick was beaten convincingly by Alex Highsmith on several occasions.

“Alex Highsmith dominates Broderick Jones on three straight reps,” Farabaugh posted on X. “Dusted on consecutive ghost moves and then wins on the third rep with a spin move.”

Smith was a bit more blunt with his analysis.

“Highsmith is SMOKING Broderick in one on ones my goodness,” he posted on X.

This is not a great omen for the Steelers, as the fate of their season largely relies on the success of the offensive line keeping Aaron Rodgers upright. If he struggles early on in the season, don’t be surprised if he’s benched for Calvin Anderson.
