Busting the Narrative Part 2: The Pittsburgh Steelers are 9-0 and it doesn’t matter how they got here
The football world has been extremely critical towards the undefeated Pittsburgh Steelers, despite a sterling 9-0 record. It’s as if those who have a voice in this world have already made up their collective minds about the Steelers, and will not accept how wrong they have been about this team. In this series ‘Breaking the Narrative’ I’m going to dive into a number of slighted players, coaches, and this Steelers team as a whole, and try to set the record straight.
Next up is the entirety of the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the narrative that they are the worst 9-0 team in NFL history.
For starters, I hate when someone says this “The worst 9-0 team ever”. The most important part of that statement is 9-0. If your team is undefeated this late in the season they are amongst the best teams in the history of the game.
You have to remember that the NFL is a game played by men. The best of the best of the football world. Just like how Mike Tomlin stated their Week 11 matchup vs the Jacksonville Jaguars is not a trap game because playing in the NFL is nothing like a BIG 10 team taking on a team from the MAC. So right there you can toss out any argument brining in the Steelers schedule into the mix. It isn’t easy to win in the NFL, no matter who you’re playing.
Steelers record: 9-0
Chiefs record: 8-1
Steelers opponents combined record: 33-47-2
Chiefs opponents combined record: 33-50
Steelers point differential: 100
Chiefs point differential: 103
Guess who’s called frauds and who’s called the best in the NFL.

Within the next two games the Pittsburgh Steelers defense should overtake the Baltimore Ravens for the best scoring defense in the NFL. The Steelers offense is currently averaging 30.1 points per game, something it never accomplished during the ‘Killer B’ era. Chris Boswell hasn’t missed a field goal, Jordan Berry is having the best year of his career punting, and Ray Ray McCloud is the best returner the Steelers have had since arguably Rod Woodson.
Look at it this way, The 2020 Steelers defense might surpass some of the records put up by the 2008 Super Bowl winning Steelers defense. And, The 2020 Steelers offense might put up more points per game than the 2014-2018 Killer B offense. Yet some how this group is overrated?

If the four pillars of football is Coaching, Offense, Defense, and Special Teams. Then you can put the Steelers pillars up against any other team in the NFL and I guarantee you, you would pick the Steelers in at least two of the four categories going up against every other team in the league.
If the rest of the NFL wants to sleep on the Steelers let them. Even if it means hearing someone say ‘This is the most undefeated Super Bowl champions in NFL history’ it just means they’re jealous.
What do you think? Do you think the Steelers are overrated because of their record? Tell us why/why not down in the comments below.
