The Steelers’ new cornerback is already becoming a leader on the team
The Pittsburgh Steelers went the veteran route at CB2 on the depth chart, once again in 2025. After the likes of Ahkello Witherspoon, Patrick Peterson, and most recently Donte Jackson filled that spot, the Steelers signed former All-Pro and Super Bowl champion Darius Slay this offseason.

But if you want to be a champion, there are some things you have to sacrifice. I want to be here on time, be present, let guys see my face, and show guys it is important to be here, and I am here to win.”

Slay has no ego when it comes to taking more of a leadership role than being the star player. He took a small step back in the Eagles’ rotation last year as both Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean emerged as stars in the secondary, but still played well in his own right. Now in Pittsburgh where Joey Porter Jr. is the top cornerback, he will likely hold the starting role opposite the Penn State product, while also serving as a confidant for the likes of Cory Trice, Brandin Echols, Beanie Bishop, and Porter.
