Ben Roethlisberger is the latest NFL star quarterback to land on the league’s Reserve/COVID-19 list. The Pittsburgh Steelers news broke this morning.
Roethlisberger, running back Jaylen Samuels, offensive lineman Jerald Hawkins, and linebacker Vince Williams have all been added to the list by the Steelers. Tight end Vance McDonald tested positive on Monday, leading to the other issues within the franchise.
The news comes two days after the team’s close call against the struggling Dallas Cowboys. The team snuck out a 24-19 road win.
“The players will need to pass COVID-19 tests throughout the week before they before they are potentially eligible to play against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday,” the Steelers said in a statement made as the news was released. “The players are permitted to take part in virtual meetings.”
To be clear, Steelers’ QB Ben Roethlisberger has tested negative and was placed on the Reserve/COVID list for close contacts, per source. Roethlisberger is said to have “been diligent” with his behavior around others.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Roethlisberger has not tested positive for the coronavirus, which is a good sign. Schefter says he has been “deemed a high-risk, close contact,” but could return in time for Sunday’s game if he continues to test negative.
Earlier this year, Ben Roethlisberger was pretty vocal about how seriously his family was taking things this year. From ESPN:
“We need to be cautious, be careful and protect each other,” Roethlisberger said in October. “Fans are allowed in the stadium, which means we’re allowed to have guests in town and things like that. In the Roethlisberger family, we’re not changing anything. No guests are coming in town. But there are a few challenges that have been presented and so hopefully guys can continue to be as cautious and as careful as we have been to this point.”
The Pittsburgh Steelers host the Cincinnati Bengals at 4:25 p.m. ET on Sunday. At 8-0, Mike Tomlin’s team is the final remaining undefeated team in the NFL this year.
