George Pickens’ replacement becomes available for Steelers

Pittsburgh may have found their WR2

The Pittsburgh Steelers traded former second-round pick George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for third and fifth-round picks in the 2026 NFL Draft. Pittsburgh also sent a sixth-round pick to Dallas.

The move has many fans saying the Steelers are right back where they were last year, but the trade was made with the future in mind, as the Steelers now have five picks across the first two days of net year’s draft to use as trade ammunition in an effort to move up for a quarterback.

But where does that leave them for 2025? Well, the Jacksonville Jaguars just released a receiver that would fit their offense like a glove.

Gabe Davis was released by the Jaguars after a slow 2024 season. He had just 20 catches in 10 games and is now a free agent. However, in 2023, he had 45 catches and 746 yards for the Buffalo Bills and was the team’s No. 2 receiver to Stefon Diggs for four years.

There are few receivers who better fit the mold of an Arthur Smith receiver than Davis. He’s a tall, lanky vertical threat who is in the conversation for being the best blocking wide receiver in the NFL.

While he isn’t the receiving threat Pickens was, the Steelers likely won’t acquire anyone who is. Michael Pittman Jr. would be the dream get at this point in the offseason, assuming a trade with the Indianapolis Colts could be pulled off. Romeo Doubs would also be a name to keep in mind in Green Bay. However, even if they are able to get one of those receivers, adding Davis as a No. 3 vertical threat who blocks his butt off every time he’s on the field would worth doing. Regardless of who else the sign or acquire, bringing in Davis just makes sense from a schematic standpoint.
