The Steelers land their new center
The 2024 NFL Draft gods smiled upon the Pittsburgh Steelers, as the board fell exactly how they could have dreamed.
Once again, without having to trade up, the Steelers land a great player at a position of serious need, landing center Zach Frazier out of West Virginia.
Frazier was the consensus No. 2 center in this class, and was one of the most consistent offensive linemen in the country. He allowed a grand total of zero sacks in 2023, and is athletic when he gets in space run blocking downfield on plays when he is pulling.
The Steelers had a clear goal in mind going into the draft: Make the offensive line better. They recognized Dan Moore was not a reliable starting tackle so they took Troy Fautanu in the first round. They didn’t have a center on the roster and had arguably the best player at his position fall to them at No. 51, once again not having to trade up to get the guy they wanted.
These are back-to-back home run picks for the Steelers, beefing up the offensive line to do what Arthur Smith wants to do- run the ball early and often, and have a passing game that eats secondaries off play action. The Steelers are 2-for-2, and still have two selections remaining on Day Two.
Final Grade: A+
