Although there were 4 players who missed practice on Wednesday, the number of players held out due to injury was lower than in previous weeks.
Coming off their 7th win of the season and their second in the AFC North, the Pittsburgh Steelers are the remaining unbeaten team and are looking to keep their win streaking rolling. With several players hoping to work past injuries this week in order to play on Sunday, the list of players not participating in practice on Wednesday was much longer than it is expected to be as the week progresses. In the first injury report of the week courtesy of the Steelers PR department, two players missed practice due to injury, two were limited, while two more were held out due to a coach’s decision.
On an extremely positive note, Steelers defensive captain Cameron Heyward, who left the Ravens game in the final seconds with a quad injury, was not even listed on the Steelers injury report. By not being listed, Heyward was a full participate in practice and is not expected to have any issue with the injury throughout the week.
Derek Watt and Mike Hilton were two players on similar paths last week and were both questionable for the Steelers Week 8 matchup with the Ravens. Hilton was inactive for the game for the second straight week while Watt was active but did not play a snap for the Steelers. Hilton is hopeful to return from his shoulder injury this week but his participation in practice will be the guide. Hilton was limited in practice on Wednesday while Derek Watt was not even listed on the injury report.
Jordan Dangerfield missed the Steelers Week 8 game with a quadricep injury. As mentioned by Coach Tomlin on Tuesday, Dangerfield returned to practice on Wednesday and in a full capacity.
The other player who did not practice on Wednesday due to injury was offensive lineman Stefen Wisniewski who was just activated to the Steelers 53-man roster on Wednesday when the Steelers placed Ulysees Gilbert III on the Reserve/Injured List. Wisniewski missed the Steelers last six games with a pectoral injury.
The other player who was limited in practice for the Steelers on Wednesday was defensive lineman Isaiah Buggs with an ankle injury.
Once again, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was given a veteran’s days off on Wednesday. Maurkice Pouncey also did not practice on Wednesday but it was not injury related.
The Steelers injury report on Wednesday usually consists of numerous players who are not participating due to coaches decisions or minor ailments. It was reported the Steelers practiced on Wednesday only in helmets, therefore the limited contact may have allowed more players to get in a workout without having to miss.
UPDATE: According to Steelers reporter Missi Matthews, Cam Heyward has been added to the injury report as a full participant.
