The former Steelers safety teased a return
The Pittsburgh Steelers added to their safety room this offseason, signing former Miami Dolphins safety DeShon Elliott to a two-year, $6 million deal. The Steelers also have Damontae Kazee, who is on the final year of his deal and set to make $3 million in 2024.
With that in mind, a familiar face teased a potential return with a post on X.
Former Steelers safety Terrell Edmunds posted “2 dawgs, one bone,” which is a classic Mike Tomlinism. This prompted some fans to speculate on the potential of Edmunds returning to Pittsburgh after one year away.
The former first round pick signed a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles ahead of the 2024 season, and was traded ahead of the trade deadline as part of the package the Eagles sent to the Tennessee Titans in exchange for Kevin Byard.
I’m all in favor of the Steelers bringing Edmunds back. From 2020-22, he was one of the Steelers’ most reliable defenders. Over that time span, Edmunds had four interceptions, had a coverage grade of 71.8, and 62 defensive stops, per PFF. While he didn’t have a ton of takeaways and splash plays, he was terrific at covering tight ends and helping take away the middle of the field while Fitzpatrick lurked on the back end. In terms of a three-safety set look, I’d rather have a look of Fitzpatrick-Elliott-Edmunds than Fitzpatrick-Elliott-Kazee.
While the signing of Edmunds wouldn’t be as flashy as the expected acquisition of a wide receiver, but it would be a good signing.
