Mike Tomlin provided an update on two DNPs from Thursday’s practice.

The Steelers have two new names on the injury report following the team’s first training camp practice of the year, head coach Mike Tomlin told the media Thursday. However, neither case seems serious.

Newly-acquired tight end Jonnu Smith and veteran running back Cordarrelle Patterson were both in street clothes at July 24’s practice for undisclosed reasons. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Ray Fittipaldo added that “Tomlin indicated they will be out short term and not long term.”

Smith and Patterson join veteran guard Isaac Seumalo, who started camp on the active non-football injury list with a soft-tissue issue. Per Steelers writer Alex Kozora, Seumalo was seen “doing some light work” at practice Thursday.

The Post-Gazette’s Brian Batko reported that Smith and Patterson are considered day to day, adding Tomlin said there weren’t any injuries “worth mentioning” although there might’ve been some “heat-related issues.”

It was in the 90s in Latrobe on Thursday. Batko added that new Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers found the challenge of practicing in the hottest part of the day “interesting,” but saw it as a way to make the team stronger.

On how training camp can help, Aaron Rodgers noted that the Steelers practice at the hottest time of day, which is “interesting.” But he called it a stressor that can make teams better.
