The Pittsburgh Steelers’ head coach has been diagnosed with COVID-19.
Even thought he NFL regular season is over, the COVID-19 pandemic continues to be in the headlines for multiple reasons. One of the reasons would be how some coaches/staff members are still testing positive for the virus.
With NFL coaching staffs prepare for the new league year, NFL Free Agency and the 2021 NFL Draft, you can expect there to be several meetings and preparation ongoing. With a team like the Pittsburgh Steelers, who have a new offensive coordinator and offensive line coach, the Steelers’ staff likely has been busy getting to work.
That work will slightly change over the next few weeks after Mike Tomlin has reportedly tested positive for COVID-19.
This per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network:
#Steelers coach Mike Tomlin was diagnosed with COVID-19 & is away from the team facility, sources say. A team spokesman would not confirm the specific case, but did say members of the coaching & personnel staffs were sent home last week after a couple positives came up.

The NFL is no stranger to coaches testing positive for coronavirus. New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton was the first to test positive for the virus, former Philadelphia Eagles coach Doug Pederson was a positive case and most notably was Cleveland Browns coach Kevin Stefanski, who missed the playoff game vs. the Steelers at Heinz Field in the Wild Card round after testing positive.
With Tomlin testing positive, the team has decided to send their coaches and staff home out of caution, and this means the Steelers’ staff will be working remotely for the foreseeable future.
Hopefully Tomlin’s case is one of the asymptomatic variety, and he gets back to the team, and full health, sooner than later.
