Minkah Fitzpatrick breaks his silence on being traded away by the Steelers

The safety spoke to reporters for the first time since being traded back to Miami.

When All-Pro safety Minkah Fitzpatrick was traded to the Miami Dolphins on June 30th, there was no reaction from Fitzpatrick given to the press or posted on social media. This led some to try reading between the lines, and speculation that the star safety could be frustrated with the trade began to swirl.

Today, Fitzpatrick addressed the media for the first time since the trade and said his social media silence is not a reflection of his excitement to be back in Miami.

“I’m not frustrated to be here. I appreciated my time in Pittsburgh. It’s unfortunate. But it’s business. My silence was not a reflection of my excitement to be here. I’m proud to be here.”

Fitzpatrick stated that he did not want to answer any questions about his past and wants to focus on the present.

Fitzpatrick, of course, has a history with the Dolphins, as he was traded for a first-round pick just one year after being drafted in 2018. Now, he wants an extension that will keep him in Miami for the foreseeable future.

“I just wanted to know that I was going to be here for more than a season.”

The Dolphins added a $16.245 million dollar signing bonus to Fitzpatrick’s deal on Sunday. This comes just days after Fitzpatrick hired Drew Rosenhaus as his new agent.

Fitzpatrick and his new agent are confident that a long term deal with Miami will be finalized in the near future.

The three-time All-Pro will have the opportunity to make an impact under an almost entirely new regime in Miami from the last time he was there. Fitzpatrick also noted his growth as a communicator since coming into the as a self-proclaimed “emotionally immature” player.

Despite his silence on social media, Fitzpatrick did a great job thanking Pittsburgh for their time, and sharing his excitement for his future with the Dolphins.
