NFL analyst predicts Steelers take a step back in 2025

February 16, 2025 by Steelers Wire

The Pittsburgh Steelers have been the picture of regular-season consistency under head coach Mike Tomlin. No losing seasons in his 18 years with Pittsburgh and 12 playoff appearances.

However, it is Tomlin’s postseason failures that draw all the attention. The Steelers have failed to win a playoff game since 2016 and can’t seem to find a way to get over the hump. This is due in part by the team’s regular-season success and the complacency that has settled in because of it.

But according to ESPN NFL analyst Matt Bowen, 2025 could be different but not in the way most fans would like to see. Bowen believes the Steelers are primed for a setback in 2025 due in large part of the problems with the offense.

The late-season fade creates concern, as does the quarterback position. Yes, the Steelers could re-sign either Russell Wilson or Justin Fields, but they also need to add some playmaking talent at receiver opposite George Pickens. This offense needs a major boost to make the playoffs in 2025.

A losing season might be exactly what this team needs to wake up and realize there is more to a successful franchise than nine wins a season and make some real changes to bring the team into the 2020s.
