The Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback still has several fans and believers around the league
The Pittsburgh Steelers’ expectations took a large step forward when they made it official that Aaron Rodgers will be their quarterback. And while some fans are wary of recent results from the Steelers no matter who their quarterback as been, many people around the NFL seem to think the Rodgers wave will raise all ships in Pittsburgh.
Jeremy Fowler of ESPN spoke with multiple NFL personnel who spoke highly of the Steelers’ addition of Rodgers. One NFL coach seemed emphatic when talking about the ability Rodgers still has.
“He’s still throwing the sh*t out of the ball,” an NFL coach told Fowler. “He’s the best quarterback they’ve had since [Ben Roethlisberger]. We will see how the body holds up, but I think he’s going to help them immensely.”
Another AFC executive weighed in, saying that Rodgers’ arm strength will help make up for his lack of mobility at this stage in his career.
“Look, the mobility is an issue, there’s no doubt,” the anonymous executive said to Fowler. “But where he helps them is with the plus arm strength and the field vision from the pocket. They haven’t had that. I’m not sure that will be enough, but the offense will be at least respectable.”
Rodgers raises the floor and the ceiling of the Steelers. In what could be the final season of one of the best careers for a quarterback we’ve ever seen, he’ll want to end it on a high note of taking the Steelers on a playoff run. If what these people with whom Fowler spoke are correct, Pittsburgh will have every chance to end this drought.
