NFL coaches, executives still view Aaron Rodgers as top quarterback

Rodgers was listed higher than Tua Tagovailoa (Dolphins) and Bo Nix (Broncos).

The Pittsburgh Steelers are all in on winning with Aaron Rodgers…. for this season.

General manager Omar Khan traded for wide receiver DK Metcalf, cornerback Jalen Ramsey, and tight end Jonny Smith, signed Rodgers, and extended safety DeShon Elliott and edge rusher T.J. Watt.

They’re going for it… while also not hamstringing themselves to sacrificing the future and can quickly pivot to drafting a quarterback with 12 picks at their disposal.

Rodgers, 41, told Pat McAfee earlier this offseason that 2025 will likely be his final season. He’s two years removed from a season-ending Achilles injury that cost him all but four snaps with the Jets.

The Jets finished 5-12 and dumped Rodgers, not wanting to continue their relationship and parting ways with the four-time NFL MVP.

Despite this, there are still some members of the league who believe in Rodgers.

In his positional group series ranking the top 10 players at each position, Jeremy Fowler assembled votes from more than 70 members of the NFL.

The voters ranked Patrick Mahomes as the No. 1 quarterback in football, followed by Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson, and Jayden Daniels to round out the top five. Justin Herbert (No. 7) is the only other AFC signal-caller in the top 10.

C.J. Stroud and Jordan Love are two honorable mentions that just missed the list.

Rodgers sat in the “also receiving votes” category. He was listed below Kyler Murray, Brock Purdy, and Dak Prescott, but ahead of Tua Tagovailoa and Bo Nix.

Putting the puzzle pieces together, NFL execs, coaches, and scouts view Rodgers as the 16th-best quarterback.

Steve Palazzolo of The 33rd Team told 93.7 The Fan earlier this offseason he thinks Rodgers can still be a fringe top 10 player at the position.

Rodgers completed 63% of his passes and earned a 90.5 QB rating last season. He threw 28 touchdowns and 11 picks with the Jets, playing most of the year under interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich.

The 11 interceptions were the second most in his career, nearly tying his 12 picks during Rodgers’ final year in Green Bay (2022). He was also sacked 40 times behind a poor offensive line.

The Steelers will need to protect Rodgers and give him time to throw. He likes to get the ball out of his hands quickly. New security blanket Arthur Smith and holdover Pat Freiermuth are quality weapons at his disposal.

Rodgers will seek revenge against the Jets in the season opener at MetLife Stadium on September 7 and begin his 21st and potentially final season.
