NFL draft expert endorses huge DT for Steelers in 1st round

February 21, 2025 by Steelers Wire

On Thursday, NFLNetwok’s resident NFL draft pundit and writer Daniel Jeremiah held his pre-combine conference call where he fielded draft questions about all 32 NFL teams. One player Jeremiah was asked about in relation to the Pittsburgh Steelers was Michigan defensive tackle Kenneth Grant and Jeremiah gave his seal of approval to the pick.

I think Kenneth has that upside in him. He’s going to be 340 pounds, and he’s going to run under 5 flat. You’re just going to see an athlete that’s a freak. He just hasn’t — he’s not a polished rusher yet. So I think that’s all in front of him.
I think in the meantime he’s someone who is going to dominate against the run. He’s going to eat blocks, and as a league that’s gone to so much Shell coverage and become so obsessed with taking away explosives, boy, you do that, you’ve got to play with light boxes.

Grant has been one of our favorite prospects in the draft for the Steelers all season long. Pittsburgh needs to fortify the front on the defensive side of the football and there isn’t a better option in this entire draft than Grant. He’s something of a throwback player, similar to Steelers legend Casey Hampton with with far more athleticism.

Jeremiah went on to talk about Grant’s potential and the potential of him becoming a Steeler.

I think Kenneth Grant, he’s got the ability and the tools to
do some unique stuff, and he has not come close to
scratching the surface of his potential. I would have no
problem whatsoever if the Steelers made that pick, and I’d
be pretty pumped up about it if I were a Steeler fan.

The Steelers currently hold the No. 21 overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft. Grant’s teammate, Mason Graham is the consensus best defensive tackle in the draft and Grant is in with Ole Miss’ Walter Nolen to be that second DT off the board, If Nolen goes first, there’s a good chance Grant falls within striking distance of the Steelers.
