NFL Wild Card Betting Preview: Steelers currently 4.5-point favorites against the Browns

January 5, 2021 by Behind The Steel Curtain Leave a Comment

NFL: Pittsburgh Steelers at Cleveland Browns
Ken Blaze-USA TODAY Sports

After coming up just short in Cleveland while resting starters, the Steelers are home favorites in their first playoff game in three years.

The Pittsburgh Steelers almost pulled out an unlikely victory in Cleveland in Week 17 when the Browns had their playoff lives at stake while the Steelers were getting much needed rest for some of their players. Although underdogs by two scores, the Steelers were a two-point conversion away from tying the game with under two minutes remaining. Instead, the Steelers get to host the Browns on Wild Card Weekend Sunday night at Heinz Field.

Will the Steelers bring home their first playoff victory since the 2016 season? Will the offense, led by Ben Roethlisberger, look like it did in the second half of Week 16? How many players will the Steelers defense get back for their playoff run?

When it comes to the betting lines for Sunday’s game, the following information is the current consensus spread and over/under for the Steelers this week as reported by oddsshark.com.

Game Info: Wild Card

Pittsburgh Steelers vs Cleveland Browns

Sunday, January 10, 2021 at 8:15 PM

Betting line: -4.5

Over/under: 46.5

Last Regular Season Meeting: Steelers (L) 22-24 vs Browns

Win streak: 1 game CLE

Last 3 Meetings: PIT 2 – 1 CLE

Last 10 Meetings: PIT 7 – 2 – 1 CLE

Playoff Meetings: PIT 2 – 0 CLE

Being the playoffs, their was no opening line for the game. The Steelers were 3-point favorites at home in Week 6 against the Browns and were 10-point underdogs in Week 17 in Cleveland.

Being the favorite on Sunday, the Steelers have a current moneyline on sportsbettingdime.com of -230 to win the game straight up, which is the equivalent of 10/23 odds. So a $20 bet placed on the Steelers over the Browns would have a payout of $28.70 ($8.70 plus the original $20 bet). The Browns have a current moneyline of +190, or 19/10 odds. Therefore the same $20 bet placed on Cleveland to win straight up would have a payout of $58 ($38 plus the original $20 bet) .

According to Oddsshark.com, the Steelers are 2-4 against the spread in their last 6 games and are 10-0 straight up in the last 10 home games against Cleveland. The Steelers also have gone OVER in 4 of their last 5 games against the AFC North and have gone UNDER in 13 of their last 20 games playing against Cleveland.

If looking at the futures bets, the Steelers odds to win the Super Bowl are 20/1. The Steelers odds to win the AFC Championship are 11/1 odds with the Kansas City Chiefs having the best odds at 4/5.
