Russini: Steelers could be involved in Kirk Cousins trade

The Steelers could be looking at Kirk Cousins

The Pittsburgh Steelers have been sitting in the waiting room of Aaron Rodgers for over a month now. And with it now being the eve of the 2025 NFL Draft, one would wonder how much longer they’ll realistically continue to wait. Should they decide to say “thanks but no thanks” to the four-time MVP, they could turn their attention to another Pro Bowl quarterback.

Per Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the Steelers are one of three teams that could be looking at a trade for Atlanta Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins.

“The Steelers, Browns and possibly Vikings could be involved in a trade involving Kirk Cousins, sources say,” Russini said on X. “Minnesota is looked at as the least likely scenario, given their preference to favor J.J. McCarthy, and Cousins would need to sign off on any deal he’s involved in.”

Russini noted that Cousins doesn’t want another situation like he was in last season with the Falcons.

“It is believed that Cousins would be against any trade that involves sending him to a situation involving a young QB, similar to one he faced in Atlanta last year,” Russini writes.

Cousins had 18 touchdowns and 16 interceptions in 2024 before being benched for Michael Penix. He currently has three years remaining on his four-year, $180 million deal he signed last offseason, but has a potential out after the 2026 season. His cap hit for the 2025 season is $40 million.
