The Pittsburgh Steelers made a splash at wide receiver on Tuesday… and no, they not trade for San Francisco 49ers star Brandon Aiyuk. They just cleared room on the 90-man roster with the release of veteran Denzel Mims, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
Mims originally joined the Steelers in October of 2023, spending the entire season on the practice squad and eventually re-upping with a reserve/future contract in January. He hasn’t played a down since the 2022 season, his final year with the New York Jets, who selected him in Round 2 of the 2020 NFL Draft. Still, it’s an interesting move for the Steelers to move on from a player they’re familiar with despite their need of depth at the position.
Mims’ release officially leaves the following wide receivers on the Pittsburgh Steelers roster:
- George Pickens
- Van Jefferson
- Roman Wilson
- Calvin Austin III
- Scotty Miller
- Marquez Callaway
- Dez Fitzpatrick
- Jaray Jenkins
- Deuce Watts
Does Mims’ release mean another signing (or trade) is on the horizon? Stay tuned…
