For all of the rumors surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers trading for a top wide receiver, that’s all it is. Just buzz. Almost immediately after the 2024 NFL draft, former Steelers cornerback Bryant McFadden tweeted out that the Steelers were closing in on a playmaker. All of us assumed this must mean a trade for a premier wide receiver to replace Diontae Johnson.
General manager Omar Khan stressed the fact during an appearance on the WDVE Morning Show on Wednesday.
“There’s nothing in the works right now,” Khan said. “Nothing close to happening. I can tell you conversations continue, but there’s nothing close to happening.”
Of course, this means nothing. We heard ahead of the draft that the Steelers were happy with their situation at center as well and then spent a second-round pick on Zach Frazier. Pittsburgh has stockpiled quite a bit of salary cap space and unless they are planning to hand out a bunch of extensions for 2025 free agents,
If the Steelers don’t work a trade for a wide receiver, that depth chart will be a concern heading into training camp, even after drafting Roman Wilson in the third round.
