On Friday, Pittsburgh Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey announced he was retiring from the NFL after 11 seasons. Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin released the statement above, congratulating Pouncey on his career and wishing him the best in his future endeavors.

Pouncey and Tomlin have been connected since Tomlin and the Steelers selected Pouncey with the No. 18 overall pick in 2010. Pouncey’s career was in jeopardy twice, first in 2013 when he tore his ACL and MCL costing him a season, followed by 2015 when he suffered a broken fibula.

The Steelers will miss Pouncey’s leadership on the field and off and Tomlin acknowledged Pouncey’s impact went well beyond the football field.
