Steelers land top WR, QB in way too early 2026 NFL mock draft

The Steelers double down on offense in latest mock draft

The Pittsburgh Steelers are one week away from their first preseason game of 2025. And while this season has yet to begin, Jacob Infante of PFSN is already starting to look ahead to April and the 2026 NFL Draft.

In a recent seven-round mock draft, Infante has the Steelers taking Arizona State wide receiver Jordyn Tyson in the first round.

“The Pittsburgh Steelers arguably came out better with their WR1 swap of DK Metcalf and George Pickens,” Infante writes. “But they could still use another complementary receiver, and they find one in this 2026 NFL Mock Draft. Jordyn Tyson is a great YAC receiver thanks to his agility and ball-carrier vision. He’s also explosive coming out of his breaks and exploits leverage spots well against man coverage by adjusting his stems.”

Infante then has the Steelers taking Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza in round two.

“While they finally found their starter for 2025 by signing Aaron Rodgers, it’s clear the Steelers eventually need to find a better long-term option through the draft,” Infante writes. “There’s a lot to like with Fernando Mendoza, as he’s a tall quarterback with a strong arm who can move a bit. His elasticity in his throwing motion and velocity behind his throws are NFL starting-caliber. With some accuracy consistency, he could be a serious name to watch in the pros.”

As I’ve said all offseason, the Steelers will be trading up in the first round for a quarterback in 2026. That’s the flag I’ve planted and I’ll continue to say it until April. That said, Mendoza could still be the guy in that case. Many draft analysts, including Nate Tice of Yahoo Sports have Mendoza as QB1 in the 2026 class.

If the transfer from California ends up playing well and the Steelers like him, then fans will be excited to hear his name called in Pittsburgh. However, there’s still a long season between now and then.
