The second-year linebacker had not received a helmet on game day in 2020
The Pittsburgh Steelers have released their inactives for their Week 5 game against the Philadelphia Eagles. With two players ruled out due to injury, and the Steelers elevating running back Trey Edmunds off of the practice squad giving them 54 players on the roster, the list is made up of 6 players, 4 of which are healthy scratches.

The two players who were already known on Friday to be inactive for Week 5 are fullback Derek Watt and safety/linebacker Marcus Allen. Both players would not have been available in Week 4 had the Steelers played in Tennessee. Even with the extra time, neither player was able to practice this past week and their status beyond Week 5 is still unknown.
Three players who have been on list every week in 2020 are Josh Dobbs, Carlos Davis, and Zach Gentry. For obvious reasons, Dobbs should be inactive each week with a healthy quarterback room. For Davis, it looks as if he would need one of the five active defensive linemen to have an injury for him to have a helmet. In the case of Zach Gentry, it seems the Steelers are content with only two tight ends for the time being. Had the Steelers not elevated Edmunds from the practice squad, Gentry might have received a helmet for the first time this season.
The final player on the inactive list for the Steelers is offensive lineman Derwin Gray. Promoted from the practice squad in Week 2 due to Stefen Wisniewski going on injured reserve, Gray played a handful of special teams snaps against the Broncos only to now be inactive for the second straight game.
One player’s name who finally did not appear on the inactive list for Week 5 was linebacker Ulysees Gilbert III. While much of Steelers’ Nation believed Gilbert would be the primary back up at inside linebacker going into the 202 season, he had not received the helmet in the Steelers previous three games. While Gilbert may not see the field on defense, his contributions on special teams will be key for both his success and the Steelers.
As for the Eagles’ inactives, they can be seen below. Cornerback Avonte Maddox as well as wide receivers DeSean Jackson and Alshon Jeffery were ruled out on Friday. The Eagles have 7 players inactive because they elevated tight end Jason Croom and cornerback Elijah Riley from the practice squad on Saturday.
