The Steelers continue to shop for playmakers

The Pittsburgh Steelers finally know that Aaron Rodgers will be their quarterback in 2025, but they still have their sights set on getting him more weapons offensively.

Pittsburgh has been in the rumor mill for the last week regarding a potential trade for Miami Dolphins tight end Jonnu Smith, and reportedly reached out to the New Orleans Saints about wide receiver Chris Olave. Sticking in the NFC South, the Steelers have reached out to another team about a potential trade fro a star pass-catcher.

Per Ian Rapoport, the Steelers made a phone call to the Atlanta Falcons to discuss a potential trade for tight end Kyle Pitts.

“They’ve inquired about some other weapons,” Rapoport said on Good Morning Football. “And I know we’re talking about receivers [and] some good pass-catchers/ They’ve had their eyes on some tight ends, too… Kyle Pitts, there was a phone call made there…”

Of course, Pitts played for Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith when Smith was the head coach in Atlanta. He was a Pro Bowler as a rookie in 2021, but is coming off a year in which he caught just 47 passes. While the Steelers already have Pat Freiermuth and Darnell Washington, using Pitts as more of a slot receiver rather than a traditional tight end, similarly to how they would likely use Jonnu Smith, would make more sense for the offense rather than pushing Washington down the depth chart.

We’ll see if a trade comes to be, but it’s clear the Steelers are hunting for another playmaker.
