Omar Khan has become a popular name for teams looking for a general manager
For the second time in a week, the Steelers salary cap ‘guru’ has been interviewed for the chance at a raise, and one of the most prominent jobs in all of sports. The Carolina Panthers are a wild card in these preliminary talks, as they have already interviewed 15 people for the job. However, Panthers owner David Tepper was formerly a Steelers minority owner and has lots of experience with Khan.
It’s been long rumored Tepper has been trying to lure away Steelers executives to Charlotte, but as of the moment no one of this magnitude has followed him.
The Panthers interviewed Steelers VP of football and business administration Omar Khan and Seahawks VP of football operations Scott Fitterer today, per the team.
That’s 15 interviews total.

Last week Khan was expected to sign on with the Texans and was even rumored to be negotiating the final terms of his deal with the NFL’s youngest organization. But a last minute a change of heart saw the team choose former New England Patriots staffer, Nick Caserio to lead the teams daily operations. A move which angered Texans star quarterback DeShaun Watson.
Omar Khan has been a fixture in the Steelers front office for more than a decade now. But with such high interest in the Steelers Vice President it is only a matter of time before someone gives him the credit he is due and makes him a general manager. Only time will tell if he will land in Carolina, but, as for right now, the Steelers still employ the services of Omar Khan and will need to utilize his skills as they navigate some challenges regarding the salary cap.
