Steelers Back in Play for 49ers’ Brandon Aiyuk? | Noah Strackbein, All Steelers
The San Francisco 49ers made a bit of a splash during the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, selecting Florida wide receiver Ricky Pearsall with the 31st pick.
With plenty of rumors floating around about their potential interest in a trade, could their decision indicate a move is coming? After not getting any takers during Day 1 of the NFL Draft, the 49ers may be in position to make a move and send either Brandon Aiyuk or Deebo Samuels out of town, and the Steelers could be a team to watch.
Insider: Steelers Expected to Extend Justin Fields | Stephen Thompson, All Steelers
The Pittsburgh Steelers will reportedly pass on Justin Fields’ fifth-year contract option when the deadline hits at the beginning of next month, but they don’t want this to be his only year in the Steel City.
In fact, Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post Gazette believes the Steelers want to keep both Fields and Russell Wilson in-house for multiple seasons. While both are facing free agency next season, Pittsburgh is hoping to avoid that.
How he fits: Troy Fautanu | Dan Lolley, Steelers.com
“He loves football, loves the physicality of it,” said Steelers general manager Omar Khan. “I can’t say enough good things about him.”
Fautanu also is a well-rounded tackle. He played over 2,000 career snaps at left tackle in his 29 starts for the Huskies.
The Steelers could keep Fautanu at left tackle, or move him to the right side and allow Jones to slide over to the left side.
“He’s a tackle right now,” said Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin. “Maybe we’ll have a little more detail (later).”
